Intensive Therapy

Could more time and space help?

It might if these resonate with you.…

  • Think 45–90 minute sessions every one or two weeks aren’t enough time to work through what’s most important to you.
  • Feel frustrated when therapy ends just as you’re getting to the most important part.
  • Don’t want to wait one or two weeks to continue a conversation that’s already started.
  • Want to make meaningful progress sooner rather than spreading the work out over months.
  • Are ready to give something important the time and attention it deserves.
  • Have tried therapy before and are looking for a more focused, immersive experience.
  • Have a demanding schedule that makes attending weekly or bi-weekly appointments difficult.
  • Are traveling to Savannah and want to make the most of your time here.

An intensive session creates the time and space to approach things differently and move through what’s been getting in the way.

Intensive therapy is a focused, extended format designed for times when it makes sense to dedicate more space and attention to your relationship.

While weekly therapy offers consistency and ongoing support, intensives create an opportunity to step out of your usual rhythm and engage in the work more fully over a shorter period of time together.

How Intensive Therapy Works

While every intensive is tailored to your unique needs, here’s what a typical process looks like depending on whether you’re coming as an individual, couple, or family.

Individual intensive therapy provides a different approach giving you the time and space to fully focus on what’s most important to you without feeling rushed by a traditional therapy session.

Some people prefer to begin with traditional 45 or 60 minute appointments and decide later whether an intensive would help them go deeper or accelerate their progress. Others know from the start they’d benefit from setting aside dedicated time to focus on what’s most important. Together, we’ll help determine the approach that best fits your goals, schedule, and circumstances.

A Typical Individual Intensive Session

  1. Before We Meet
Complete your intake paperwork and any recommended questionnaires beforehand so we have a strong understanding of what brings you in and what you’d like to accomplish.
  2. Clarifying Your Goals
We’ll begin by discussing your story, what’s bringing you to therapy, and the goals you’d like to accomplish during your intensive.
  3. Focused Therapy
We’ll spend the majority of our time working through the issues that matter most to you, introducing practical strategies, challenging unhelpful patterns, and building on your strengths along the way.
  4. Moving Forward
You’ll leave with practical tools, personalized recommendations, and a clear plan for maintaining momentum after your intensive.

For many couples, meaningful progress happens when you have enough uninterrupted time to stay with difficult conversations rather than stopping just as things begin moving forward.

Some couples prefer or need to complete their entire intensive over one or two consecutive days. Others choose to reserve their intensive first and then begin with three or four 60-minute sessions beforehand. This allows us to meet with you as a couple, meet individually with each partner, and develop a clear treatment plan before your intensive begins, allowing us to jump right in with a clear understanding of your relationship and the areas we’ll focus on to help you achieve your goals.

A Typical Couples Intensive

  1. Before We Meet
Complete your intake paperwork and relationship questionnaires beforehand so we have a strong understanding of your relationship before we ever sit down together.
  2. Meet Together
We’ll begin by talking about your relationship, what’s bringing you in, and what you’d like to accomplish during your intensive.
  3. Individual Meetings
We’ll spend time with each partner individually to better understand your personal history, perspective, and the unique experiences each of you bring into the relationship.
  4. A Clear Plan
We’ll bring everything together into a thoughtful treatment plan so we have a shared understanding of where we’re headed and why.
  5. Focused Therapy
With a clear direction in place, we’ll spend the majority of our time working toward your goals, introducing practical tools and strategies along the way.
  6. Moving Forward
You’ll leave with a personalized plan, practical recommendations to continue your progress, and a clear understanding of how to maintain momentum after your intensive.

When several family members are involved, bringing everyone together for an extended period often creates opportunities that are difficult to achieve through shorter, ongoing sessions.

Family intensives are often the most practical option when coordinating multiple schedules, working with family members who live in different locations, or making the most of the limited time everyone is available. Depending on your family’s needs, we may recommend beginning with individual 60-minute sessions beforehand or bringing everyone together directly for the intensive. This flexibility allows us to make the most of your time together while tailoring the process to your family’s unique circumstances.

A Typical Family Intensive

  1. Before We Meet
Complete your intake paperwork and any recommended questionnaires beforehand so we can begin understanding your family, what’s been happening, and what each person hopes to accomplish.
  2. Meet Together
We’ll begin by meeting as a family to better understand your relationships, the challenges you’re facing, and the goals you’d like to work toward together, even if those goals are different.
  3. Individual & Small Group Meetings
Depending on your family’s needs, we’ll spend time meeting individually or in smaller groups to better understand each person’s perspective and the role they play within the family system.
  4. A Clear Plan
We’ll bring everything we’ve learned together to identify priorities, create a thoughtful plan, and establish clear goals for the remainder of the intensive.
  5. Focused Family Work
We’ll spend the majority of our time helping your family work through important conversations, improve communication, strengthen relationships, and begin creating healthier ways of moving forward together.
  6. Moving Forward
You’ll leave with practical recommendations, tools your family can begin using right away, and a clear plan for maintaining progress after the intensive.

Planning Your Intensive

  • Intensives are typically scheduled as one or two full days from approximately 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., though the length and structure of your intensive will depend on your goals and circumstances.
  • Intensives are commonly scheduled on weekends, but weekday options are also available depending on your therapist’s availability.
  • Depending on the type of intensive, sessions may take place in your home, outdoors throughout Savannah, at your Airbnb or other accommodations, or virtually.
  • Breaks are built into the day, including approximately one hour for lunch. Lunch is on your own, giving you time to recharge while your therapist reviews the work so far and prepares for the remainder of the intensive.
  • We’ll provide any worksheets, resources, or materials used during your intensive. We simply recommend bringing a notebook and something to write with for your own notes and reflections.
  • When completing your inquiry form, let us know your preferred dates, scheduling considerations, and who you’d like to participate (if applicable). This helps us recommend the format and schedule that’s the best fit for your situation.
  • Before your intensive, you’ll complete any recommended intake paperwork and questionnaires. Depending on the approach that’s the best fit for you, your therapist may also recommend beginning with traditional therapy sessions beforehand. After your intensive, we’ll work together to determine the most appropriate next steps.
  • A credit card is required to reserve your intensive. Payment plans may be available in certain situations. Please let us know if you’d like to discuss available options.
